Support for Design Workshops by Academic Institutions

GD Goenka University of New Delhi | Politecnico di Milano

In 2016, Politecnico di Milano, the largest technical university in Italy, along with a private Italian firm Canovahome, hosted a workshop for a group of students from the GD Goenka University of New Delhi .
These students learned to design rugs as a part of their workshop. Alternative Technology had provided our design software 'Galaincha' for the program. In the workshop, the students used Galaincha to render their designs for creating a realistic look. The final designs by the students were presented and 5 of the designs were selected by Canovahome to display in their showroom in Milan.
This program has been listed in a Mexican Journal
'Journal Semestral del Departamento de Diseño' of Universidad Iberoamericana (IBERO), one of Mexico's top private educational institutions as one of the best practices for using design to create a positive local impact.

Namuna College of Fashion Technology

Alternative Technology conducted a month-long training program of Galaincha software on the premises of Namuna College of Fashion Technology (NCFT) in partnership with NCFT and the Alumni Association of Namuna College of Fashion Technology (AANCFT) in 2013. A total of 11 trainees including the college's alumni and faculty took part in the event. The training program was concluded with a closing ceremony. During the closing ceremony of the training program, designs developed by the trainees were displayed and certificates of participation were also distributed to the trainees.

We welcome similar opportunities of collaborating with educational institutions to offer our products and training services for organizing workshops that aim to create a positive impact in local communities and economies.

Courses and Curriculums Integrated with our Software

The State University of New York

The State University of New York offers a non-credit online course on Contemporary Rug Design with our Galaincha Software as their digital tool.
This certificate infuses the creative thinker with invaluable information to align with the talent of willing artisans and focuses on an in-depth understanding of the common fibers, scale, and terminology used in handmade rugs. In this course, students can create, develop and specify for their own contemporary rug collection using simple sketching and painting techniques as well as advanced digital applications including Galaincha.

Having such implemented examples, we believe that similar online or on-campus programs can be run for the professional development of students in Nepal as well as abroad by facilitating the course work with our software.

Design Software Training in Partnership with Other Organizations

GIZ Uzbekistan

Alternative Technology conducted training of our carpet design software, Galaincha for carpet weavers in Uzbekistan as a part of the program 'Training on Modern Production of Carpet' organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan within the GIZ Uzbekistan Programme. The program was organized with the aim of modernizing Uzbekistan's carpet weaving industry and was attended by local handmade carpet manufacturers, designers, teachers, and students of the National Institute of Art and Design Kamoliddin Behzod.

Good Weave Nepal

Alternative Technology facilitated a month-long training program 'Carpet Designing Training Program' in 2017 in partnership with Nepal GoodWeave Foundation. The training program was supported by Greater Impact Foundation.

We are open to collaboration opportunities with NGOs and INGOs for organizing training programs on our carpet design softwares to upskill the carpet weavers and modernize the domestic and international carpet industries.

Custom Software Development

Nepal Export Promotion Centre

Nepal Export Promotion Centre (NEPC) planned to launch a design center for Nepalese papercraft makers and Pashmina makers to modernize and thus, promote the respective industries. An alliance was established between the NEPC and Alternative Technology for the development of the design center. Alternative Technology developed and donated the design center platform to Nepal Export Promotion Center. The platform is freely available on the web to papercraft and pashmina makers. Papercraft and pashmina makers can generate, customize and download design ideas of pashmina scarfs, diaries, lanterns, paper frames, and much more on the design center platform.

We are always looking for opportunities to create new solutions and application areas in the handicraft industry by using our innovative technology.
